3 Advantages of Comprehension Aid Resources for Teachers

Teacher

TeacherOne of the most important educational skills that children must possess is reading comprehension. It is a skill that once learned will play an integral role in the child’s entire life. Teachers need to make full use of comprehension aid resources in their classrooms to better impart this important skill to their students.

Improving vocabulary, pronunciation and being able to get an excellent grasp of the core concepts will develop the mind of the child to grasp more advanced concepts later. According to RICGroup.com.au, comprehension resources are advantageous when used in school.

To Monitor the Level of Comprehension

Teachers use comprehension aid resources to assess and monitor the level of comprehension skills in a student. Teachers get to understand what areas their student needs to work on so that they can draft a plan to improve and fix problems at an early stage rather than attempting to correct it later.

Comprehension monitoring and assessment instruction teaches students to:

• Know what they are able to grasp and understand • Identify concepts that they find difficult to comprehend • Apply correct strategies to fix problems before they become more complicated

To Learn Metacognition

Metacognition is a process of thinking about thinking. Excellent readers are able to utilise metacognitive strategies to have more control over their reading skills. Teachers can help students understand concepts by teaching them to clarify the purpose of the reading.

During the reading process, students would be able to monitor their level of understanding, so they can adjust their reading speed to fit the difficulty of the concepts involved appropriately. In effect, this approach helps students fix any comprehension issues they may have and then after the session, the teacher would be able to check if they were able to grasp the content.

Makes Good use of Graphic and Semantic Organisers

Comprehension resources can make good use of graphic organisers to teach concepts and the relationship between concepts using text or diagrams. Graphic organisers are basically maps, charts, frames, webs and clusters that help teachers better impart concepts to students so they may comprehend the topic better.

How Effective Is 3D Modeling for Home Construction

3D modeling

3D modelingIt’s important for homebuilders to deliver high quality construction projects within the budget and timeframe of their clients. Building a house is like working on a puzzle, though; you don’t know how it would look until the pieces come together. Apart from rough drafts and sketches, you need something that’s easier to understand. This is what 3D modeling is good at.

Final Output

Expectations are challenging to meet, especially if you and your builder aren’t on the same page. For instance, if you want a spacious bedroom, it’s impossible to explain how big you want it without using any kind of measurement.

Property builders like Poli Construction, along with HGTV and other home improvement sites, say that 3D modeling promotes better visual representation. It can help you conceptualize how the house should look. From the landscape to the dining area, there won’t be misunderstandings regarding the size, division, and other specifications of the house.

Accurate Details

People can imagine only to a certain extent, and not everybody can go through details. An interior and exterior 3D model helps you visualize an in-depth, overall look of the house. This includes the difference between the spaces of each room, the location of doors, windows, and furniture, and the roofing.

In addition, most property builders use 3D modeling as their basis. The project won’t start until you – the client – approve every aspect of the house. If ever you want to add or remove anything, it’s safer and less costly to edit the 3D model than causing panic and confusion when the construction has already started.

Thanks to advancements in technology, you don’t have to worry about how your new house will look. As you’re confident that you’ve discussed the necessary information with your builder, all you need is to wait for them to bring the 3D model to life.

MAS Reveals Consumers Lose £21 Billion By Not Understanding Financial Jargon

finance

financeThe Money Advice Service (MAS), the body set up by the government to provide general financial guidance to the public, has revealed some rather startling results of its survey into the public’s understanding of financial jargon.

The MAS says that the average adult lost out on £428 last year as a result of this lack of understanding, which equates to £21 billion for the UK adult population as a whole.

Finance professionals from Scott Robert say 84% of the 3,000 people surveyed admitted to not reading the full policy terms and conditions before signing up for a financial product.

One in three could not say what ‘interest’ meant, while around two in three did not know what a ‘budget’ is. A significant minority also failed to correctly describe what compound interest is (46% of respondents), or what an annuity is (44%).

Abbreviations in financial jargon caused particular problems for the people surveyed. Three in five could not say what EAR stood for (Equivalent Annual Rate), and 30% could not identify what APR was an abbreviation for (Annual Percentage Rate).

Specific mention is made in the MAS press release of the lack of understanding of payday loan borrowers. 15% of respondents had taken out a payday loan, and of these, more than half did not know the correct meaning of the word ‘loan’. Amongst payday loan borrowers, the proportion not knowing what APR stands for rises to 64%. Perhaps the most dramatic revelation to arise from the survey is that of those who had taken a payday loan, 18% did not think that they needed to pay back the amount advanced to them.

These results should serve as a warning to the UK’s payday lenders. Firms of this type will frequently deal with customers who are vulnerable and/or whose financial literacy levels are low, and it is vital that they fully explain all of the terms and conditions – including the repayment obligations – to their customers before the loan proceeds.

The MAS then goes on to describe the effects that a lack of financial understanding can have on people. 13% of respondents were forced to move home as a result, 9% could not meet their household bills, 6% needed to forego a holiday and 4% needed to return to living in their parents’ home.

Jane Symonds, a money expert at the MAS, commented on the results by saying: ‘Reading and understanding the terms and conditions of a financial product can seem long and unnecessary, but if you don’t, you may end up incurring unexpected penalties and possibly even impact your credit score.

“There are many ways in which you can lose money by not properly understanding terms and conditions. Early repayment charges on loans and mortgages are a common financial headache, and many people fall foul of penalties for taking savings money out early from long term saving accounts, or incur late repayment charges on credit cards.’

The MAS is expected to be given a major role in providing the Government’s new Guidance Service, regarding the options for receiving pension benefits for people approaching retirement. The costs of this service are expected to be met by the UK’s financial advisers, many of whom already resent having to pay an annual levy to fund the MAS’s current work.

Life After60: Let the Good Times Roll

elderly care

elderly careAll of us have heard that 60 is the new 40. We have also heard that life begins at 60. But the fact is that people generally retire from their professional responsibilities at 60 in most countries of the world. Then what do all these catch phrases mean or imply? They probably imply that 60 is just a number and it is the thinking that makes the difference.

Life after 60

  • It is the mindset that ultimately decides how old or young a person is. While life does change after one turns 60, the fact is that the mind can maintain its youth.
  • In fact, the mind can remain active for a long time after that if you use it fruitfully.
  • Mental aging is within our control while physical aging is harder to maintain.
  • Wishes, wants, aspirations do not end at any age.

How to start a new life with renewed vigor after 60

Do not let grey hair or wrinkles make your life miserable. There is more to life than these physical changes. Whether you and your spouse live independently at your home or at a retirement home like Twin Lakes Community, it is possible to make this phase of your life a cherished one with a little effort.

Remember the following and you’ll be good to go –

  • Aging is not the end of the world. You have an opportunity now to reinvent your life and do things for which you did not have the time when you were younger and busier.
  • Do not brood about your past and thus get rid of unnecessary baggage.
  • Being unemployed does not mean you cannot pursue happiness. Remember that happiness is a state of mind. So empower your mind and explore new avenues.
  • Learn new skills and also learn to enjoy life’s small pleasures.
  • Spend quality time with your partner and try to have an active social life.
  • You can try to soothe your mind with yoga or meditation.
  • Take adequate rest, sleep well, eat healthy, exercise regularly and keep illness at bay.

Once you accept that change is the only factor that is constant in life and that it is inevitable, then your perspective towards life will also change for the better.

If you have an open and positive mind, acceptance of all new changes and challenges will become simpler. You can thus easily lead a harmonious and more meaningful life after 60.

DIY vs. Professional Teeth Whitening Solutions: Looking at Both Sides of the Coin

dentist

dentistHaving the perfect set of teeth can boost your self-confidence a great extent. White, clean teeth make your smile look perfect too. You have to take good care of your teeth to keep them healthy and beautiful. Proper oral hygiene includes regular dental check-ups and cleaning to help keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Over a period of time, the lack of proper dental care and hygiene can lead to your teeth’s discolouration. This is not permanent—that’s the good news—and it can easily be reversed. You can whiten your teeth at home using over-the-counter whiteners. Your other option is to have a cosmetic dentist do the procedure in the office. The method you choose to whiten your teeth depends on you making an informed choice about what is right for you.

DIY (Do-It-Yourself) or Professional Teeth Whitening Solutions?

DIY teeth whitening is definitely a more cost-effective option when compared to having a dentist do it for you. The bleach you buy for your teeth at a pharmacy is the best option if you have financial constraints, or if you’re too busy as of the moment.

Teeth whitening procedures performed by cosmetic dentists, however, are much more effective in reducing or removing the discolouration from your teeth. Professional teeth whitening services can improve the colour of your teeth by almost five to eight shades, when compared to home teeth whitening options which offer to improve the colour of your teeth by almost three to five shades.

If you want the colour of your teeth to improve more quickly, professional services would be the better option. Since professional teeth whitening solutions are stronger, the results can be seen much sooner as well.

If you have sensitive gums or other problems in your mouth, it is better to consult a cosmetic dentist to whiten your teeth for you. Some home DIY teeth whitening solutions may have ingredients that could harm or cause irritation on your gums or mouth. It is not advisable for people with decaying teeth to use home teeth whiteners. Pregnant or nursing women should also avoid home tooth whitening solutions.

There are many cosmetic dentists in Perth. You can easily find a reputed cosmetic dentist by checking the local directories. Ask your friends and family for recommendations on good dentists in your area, or check online.

Helping Your Teen Conform with School Dress Codes

school uniforms

Most students used to the concept wearing casual clothes to school would think of prescribed uniforms. The youth today are all about expressing individuality, and cringe at the idea of having to wear something that has already been decided for them.

school uniformsIn some schools, however, wearing a uniform or pre-determined school dress is a must. Perm-A-Pleat says parents should remind children that wearing uniforms is no big deal and can actually encourage many great things.

A Sense of Belonging

As a parent, you have to explain to your child that by wearing a uniform, they identify with a group and contribute to a greater sense of belonging. Show them examples of cadets in military schools and other distinguished personalities in society like the army, fire fighters, and the police force. If your child is a sports lover, tell them that wearing a uniform is almost like identifying with a team and sport. Help them understand that wearing a uniform identifies them as belonging to a group with a special identity.

A Sense of Pride and Honour

The uniforms for a particular school always encourage the feeling of a unique identity. Moreover, your child must understand that it is always a matter of pride and honour to wear uniforms. This is true regardless of the school they are attending. Explain that as a member of the school community, there are certain social norms and standards to abide by.

A Sense of Being

Most teens want to present their own unique identity, which is why they are so hesitant about the concept of wearing uniforms. Once your child understands that common clothing signifies group membership, it easier to explain why schools enforce a dress code. You may tell your child that his school is laying out the rules to create an environment that is free of distractions and brings everyone together.

The simple truth is that uniforms are a great way to keep costs down and helps encourage a sense of community. Also, kids should not be too worried about losing their sense of identity because most schools that implement the use of uniforms allow the youth to style to their liking to a certain extent.

Top 3 Ways to Simplify the Payroll Process

payroll

Payroll processes are complex and sensitive. Those who completely understand how a payroll process works should be the only ones handling it. One wrong input could damage the company, so anyone assigned to this should have the necessary experience. As technology becomes more advanced, however, such processes don’t always have to stick with the traditional ways. Here are some examples that you should try for your business:

One wrong input could damage the company, so anyone assigned to this should have the necessary experience. As technology becomes more advanced, however, such processes don’t always have to stick with the traditional ways. Here are some examples that you should try for your business:

In the Cloud

Be eco-friendly and stop printing pay slips. Apart from saving a significant amount of paper, you reduce the ink you use for printing and save more money. By going digital, you save time from distributing the pay slips and don’t have to let employees claim on their own. If you give them something to access online, they don’t even have to leave their seats or wait until printing is done.

Cloud-based system providers like Salarium say that using the cloud is simple, secure, and easily accessible. There’s no need to be an expert to use its features. You’ll have secure usernames and passwords to keep data safe from others.

Go Digital

Payrolls are all about due dates, reports, and tasks. They contain different data, each one important. It’s best to find a system that works for you. Instead of using a weekly or monthly planner, a calendar, or to-do list, why not find software where you can input everything? This could lighten your load because it’s easier to access and edit.

Outsource

It might not be a good idea for many, but some find it beneficial to let others handle their payroll needs especially when they’re out of time. An article published by the Entrepreneur.com noted that you should find out if outsourcing is right for you. Not doing the payroll in-house might make you nervous, but there’s no need to worry if you hire the right people.

Payroll processes are indeed complex, but finding what works for your business can make it easier. Decide whether you’ll go for cloud, in-house software, or outsource and discover how these can change the way you work.
